NCCF welcomes launch of online portal of National Transit Pass System (NTPS) by the the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change
On 23rd July 2020, Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon’ble Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Information and Broadcasting & Heavy Industry launched the online portal of National Transit Pass System for issuing transit permits for seamless transport of timber, bamboo, and other forest produce.
While welcoming this much awaited initiative of the Government on Pilot basis in Madhya Pradesh and Telangana, NCCF has requested the Ministry to operationalize the NTPS in all States and UTs. This is in line with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Digital India initiative, and will contribute sgnificantly to the Make in India Movement and Atma-Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (ANBA), through enhanced ease of doing business for the wood and other forest produce based industries, a potentially vibrant and dynamic sector of the Indian economy.
This much awaited One Permit One Nation and people-friendly initiative, will particularly facilitate small scale growers to apply for the transit permit via easy to use features and get full value for their produce , rather than being forced to sell their products at a lower price to the middlemen , due to the existing rather tedious and time taking process of getting transit permits. This will also help in promoting agroforestry and therby contributing in achievement Government’s resolve of doubling farmers income, while also ensuring legality and easy verification of the source of raw materials used by wood and other forest produce based industries. This move will surely help in raising demand for wood, NWFPs and wood based products and accelearting the Greening India movement under your leadership.
NCCF, a network of professionals, experts and stakeholders, is actively engaged in diverse conservation activities including, development of globally benchmarked and India specific sustainability standards for various constituents of our natural resource base, as its core working area, apart from working for policy advocacy, training and capacity building through multi-stakeholder engagement.
NCCF has offered assistance to the Ministry in operationalizing the National Transit Pass System through activities like training, capacity building and awareness raising, if so asked for.
