Purpose of Job

This position is a part of the climate change department, with the individual being responsible for continuing with the development and further operationalisation of the NCCF’s flagship initiative; the Carbon Registry, India (CR-I). The Registry will be a viable, scalable platform for facilitating:

i. submission, registration and verification/certification of GHG mitigation projects

ii. issuance, trading and tracking of the resulting carbon credits and

iii. submission, approval and listing of project-based methodologies


Essential Qualifications

A recognised university degree (PhD/PG) in the domain of either climate change, sustainability, energy and environment.





A minimum of 3 years, preferably 5 years of experience in carbon market as validator, verifier, assessor, auditor for projects in similar GHG programmes such as CDM, VERRA, GS, PlanVivo, etc.


Candidates with experience as consultant, project developer can apply only if they have part of their experience as a validator, verifier, assessor or auditor.


Candidates with lesser experience may be considered for a lower position.




The ideal candidate is expected to have the following competencies:

Conversant with the concept of climate change mitigation including familiarity with its key strategies, technologies and measures.

Possesses deep understanding of the overall functioning of key GHG

programmes, like CDM, VERRA, GS, PlanVivo, etc, including regulatory framework (established rules, requirements, procedures and guidelines) and other structural and design elements.

Deep understanding of rules and requirements for development of

mitigation projects, methodologies and subsequent audits.

A deep personal commitment, passion and keen understanding of key international climate change agreements like Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, etc., including awareness of relevant provisions within these for development of market based GHG mitigation mechanisms.

Insight into CORSIA, MARPOL, and India’s NDCs.

• Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.

• Very strong communication skills written, oral and presentation including demonstrated networking abilities.

• Superior presentation skills are necessary.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and work with colleagues as part of a team, able to groom newly recruited team members.

• Capable of exercising independent judgment and flexibility.

• Excellent organisational, research and project management skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

• Strategic insight and creativity with the ability to conceptualise and analyse new ideas.


Key responsibilities


The key responsibilities of the individual shall include:

• Continuation of the development of ongoing GHG programme (CR-I) – Finalisation of Rules and Requirements of the registry.

• Assist development of IT registry platform from a functionality perspective.

• Capable of identifying HR requirement to operationalise the CR-I.

• Liaison with relevant stakeholders to invite projects and methodologies for registration/listing with the registry.

• Tracking policy movement especially those related to voluntary carbon markets and identify potential business opportunities across the globe.

• Monitoring research opportunities, announcements, and donor trends, and further maintain accurate information and data related to the same.

• Building and growing a network of professional business contacts – clients, consultant companies and individual experts to identify potential partnerships.

• Oversight of all aspects of project management including project planning, monitoring, reporting, writing, research and documentation. He/she shall be responsible for overall quality of delivery.

• Managing project team(s) to ensure seamless and high-quality delivery.

• Identification, organisation and planning of meetings with relevant stakeholders based on needs of the programme.
